Chatfield
April 9, 2005
The club kicked off the 2005 season at Chatfield. Weather was pleasant with morning temperatures in the high 30's climbing to a sunny 60+ degrees. Late in the day we did have some clouds move in and the wind kicked up -- shocking for a DBM tourney.
First place with 4 fish went to a long overdue Damon Jones. Damon caught four fish off the rocks on the dam on tubes after forgoing the conventional wisdom about jerkbaits being the only way to go.
Second place with 3 fish went to a long absent Troy Coburn. Troy was fishing a LuckyCraft Staysee for suspending fish. He reported sitting in 25 feet of water and working the bait back with a 7 second pause between jerks.
Third went to Jeff Jones. Jeff figured out the same tube bite as Damon and caught his 3 fish after noon.
Fourth went to Curtis Welch with 2 fish. Curtis had the big fish of the tourney an 18" plus beauty. His fish came on 1/4 oz brown Burt's jig with a Yammie black twin tail trailer dragging across gravel in 5-6' of water near a drop and the other on a Staysee.
Fifth place went to newcomer Ray Frazier. Ray had 3 keepers and lost a fourth late in the day that would have given him the tournament. Ray had one fish on a Bandit crankbait in about 10 feet of water, one on a small Senko in 7 feet, and one on a Rapala jerkbait in 5 feet.
