Chatfield

August 27, 2005

I started out on Saturday throwing a craw color crankbait.  With no luck I
switched to a tube and fished the rip rap starting in 9 to 12 feet of water.
The fish were stacked in that deeper water, but I could not get bit.  I
slowed down and went a little shallower, 3 to 6 feet.  That is when I
started catching fish.  If you can find little differences in the contour
you will usually find a few fish stacked on it.  The action for me was not
fast and furious, but the fish I did catch were 12"+ fish.  I did fish top
water with no success, except a 21" walleye.  The tube that I fished was a
2.5" Crooked Creek, green pumpkin copper fleck tube, on a 1/16 oz. head.
The key was fishing as slow as I could, and finding the little contour
changes along the shore.
