Jan. 4, 2006 Denver Bassmasters meeting minutes

Our first meeting of the year was held for the first time at the new Bass Pro Shops facility. Approximately 30 members and guests were present. Welcome new member Tommy Bonney (BPS employee) and guests Larry Rydalch and Rich Cox.

No solid plans yet for the date or location of the annual club banquet, usually held in early February. Club member Scott Johnson is looking into Dave & Busters at I-25 & Colorado Blvd. as a possible site. Another potential is a return to last year’s site, club member Chad Phillips’ Colorado Coal Company restaurant in Eire, CO which because of limitations can accommodate us only on a Monday.

The Colorado Bass Federation has no further news on keeping our current affiliation with BASS or hooking up with FLW or both. The next CO Federation meeting will be Saturday, Jan. 21 at Bass Pro Shops. Denver Bassmasters has committed four members as representatives for this meeting.

The CO Federation will have a booth at the upcoming Sports, Travel & Boat Show January 19 through 22. We expect to staff a Kids Casting area at the show with the DBM and other CO Fed. club members.

VP Curt Stowers presented two 2006 club tournament formats to be voted on by the membership. One was a six tourney schedule with three one day tourneys (within a couple hours drive of the Denver area) and three two day “away” tourneys requiring more distance and overnight stay. The second proposal was for a seven tourney schedule with four near (one day) and three away (two day). The seven tourney format was the preference by a large majority.

Our 2006 tournament schedule is as follows:

Apr.8 – Pueblo, one day;  May 6 – Chatfield, one day; May 20 – Horsetooth, one day; June 3 & 4 – Cedar Bluff, KS; July 15 & 16 – Norton, KS; Aug 12 – (night)Horsetooth; Sept. 23 & 24 – Clark, KS.

The dates for our year end Mega Bucks tourney are Oct 20 (practice day), 21 & 22 (competition days). The lake site has not yet been selected but nominees for Mega Bucks are: Alan Henry, TX; McPhee, CO; Vallecito, CO; Cedar Bluff, KS; Pueblo, CO; Flaming Gorge, UT & WY; Echo Canyon, CO; Grand Lake, OK; Navajo, CO.

Tom Grace announced there will be programs in upcoming months covering techniques, demos, show and tell, and outside guest speakers. He also mentioned upcoming BPS events the club can be involved in for fund raising purposes. More info as available.

The next Board of Directors meeting will be Monday, Jan.30, 7pm at Tom Grace’s house. All club members are welcome to sit in. Tom’s phone is 303-755-2111 for directions.

Bass Pro Shops General Manager, Don Watts issued 15% BPS discount cards for members in attendance. Don is expected to address the club at our February meeting.
